The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa has achieved a significant advancement in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for Sustainability, rising 142 places compared with the previous year to reach 293rd globally, up from 435th. This accomplishment reflects the University’s improved performance in environmental sustainability indicators, resource management efficiency, and the development of green infrastructure across the campus.

At the national level, the University ranked ninth among 87 Iraqi public and private universities, and fourth among private universities, underscoring its leadership in adopting environmentally responsible policies and integrating sustainability into its academic programmes.

This progress aligns with the University’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. Measures to enhance energy systems, water and waste management, and the expansion of green spaces have contributed to Goal 4: Quality Education through embedding sustainability within academic curricula; supported Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy by improving energy efficiency; advanced infrastructure in line with Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; and contributed to climate protection efforts consistent with Goal 13: Climate Action.

The University of Warith Al-Anbiya’s progress highlights its tangible efforts to serve as a pioneering model for sustainable education both nationally and internationally.

The Fourth International Conference on Oil and Petrochemical Technology, hosted by the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa, featured a series of specialised research sessions in petroleum and gas engineering, as well as petrochemical technology, with the participation of a distinguished group of academics and researchers.

The sessions addressed the latest innovations and modern technologies in the energy sector, highlighting in particular the role of artificial intelligence tools in exploration, production, and data analysis. They also explored the principal challenges facing the oil industry and the scientific approaches available to address them.

The organisation of these sessions aligns with the objectives of sustainable development, notably Goal 7: (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9: (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and Goal 4: (Quality Education), by promoting scientific research and enhancing academic capacities in advanced engineering fields.

The Fourth International Conference on Oil and Petrochemical Technology concluded at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa with a closing session that presented the most significant scientific findings emerging from the research panels, alongside a discussion of a set of important recommendations to be submitted to the relevant authorities with the aim of advancing the development of Iraq’s oil and petrochemical sector.

As part of the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa’s commitment to close monitoring of the educational process, the University President, Professor Dr Ibrahim Saeed Al-Hayyawi, accompanied by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor Dr Waqed Al-Moussawi, conducted a field tour of several colleges and university facilities. During the visit, he met with groups of students and reviewed their academic environment and educational needs.

The conference aims to examine the latest scientific developments and modern technologies in the oil and petrochemical industries, and to strengthen research collaboration between universities and industrial institutions. The President of the University of Warith al-Anbiyaa , Professor Dr Ibrahim Saeed Al-Hayyawi, held a meeting with the Quality Assurance Department, attended by the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr Waqed Al-Moussawi. During the meeting, he expressed his appreciation for the Department’s efforts in enhancing the University’s institutional performance and meeting the requirements for academic accreditation and international rankings, praising its pivotal role in strengthening the quality of education and its outcomes.

The meeting also addressed the Department’s future plans and strategies for improving academic and administrative performance.  The Department of Aircraft Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa organised a training visit for third-year students to the University of Technology, as part of the academic twinning programme aimed at enhancing academic cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the two institutions.

The visit included a series of practical experiments conducted in the laboratories of aircraft engines, aerodynamics, and machine theory. These activities contributed to strengthening students’ applied skills and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, in line with the latest educational methodologies in the field of aircraft engineering. The Department of Student Residences at the University of Warth al-Anbiyaa organised a cultural evening for the University’s female students, featuring an awareness lecture and a range of cultural competitions. The event was held in collaboration with the Women’s Religious Outreach Division of the Holy Hussein Shrine and witnessed active participation from students residing in the University’s dormitories.

In line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s policy to support and activate technological incubators and to strengthen partnerships between universities and the industrial sector, the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa discussed avenues for enhancing cooperation with the Iron and Steel plant in Karbala. The meeting took place during the visit of Dr Anwar Al-Aamri, the Director-General of the plant, who was received by Professor Dr Nowfal Al-Araji, the University’s Vice President for Administrative Affairs, in the presence of representatives from the University’s Science and Technology Parks Department.

The two parties explored prospects for collaboration in training and employing students and graduates of the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa within the plant, as well as the potential for implementing joint research and applied projects that could contribute to developing the iron and steel sector and providing scientific solutions to industrial challenges. Such cooperation aims to strengthen the link between scientific research and the needs of the labour market.

The Vice President for Administrative Affairs at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa, Professor Dr Nowfal Al-Araji, held a meeting with a number of department heads to review the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them and to follow up on the workflow across the university’s administrative and service units.

During the meeting, Dr Al-Araji emphasised the importance of enhancing institutional performance and improving the efficiency of the working environment, in line with Goal 4 (Quality Education). He highlighted the need to improve the quality of services provided to students and ensure they are aligned with academic and administrative development requirements.

He further stressed the importance of supporting the stability and organisation of administrative processes in a way that strengthens effective governance within the university, consistent with Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), which calls for building effective, transparent, and accountable institutions.

Dr Al-Araji also noted that the university remains committed to improving the services offered to its students and visitors by strengthening coordination mechanisms between departments and promoting collaborative work. The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa participated in the Conference of the Defence University for Postgraduate Studies, which was attended by a NATO representative and the Vice President of the American University, with the aim of strengthening academic cooperation in support of enhancing Iraq’s national and military security system.

During the conference, the University highlighted the importance of developing educational and research programmes in line with Goal 4 (Quality Education), by supporting specialised academic pathways in the fields of security and defence. The University also emphasised the need to contribute to reinforcing the work of state institutions in accordance with Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), through evidence-based perspectives that enhance the effectiveness of national structures.

The University further addressed the importance of expanding international cooperation with leading global academic centres, in line with Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), to enrich expertise and strengthen future capabilities.

The College of Law at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa has organised a scientific competition for second-year students, attended by the Assistant for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr Nowfal Al-Araji. The event reflects the University’s commitment to developing students’ academic capabilities and fostering a spirit of positive competition among them.

The competition featured specialised legal questions in Criminal Law, with participating teams competing to provide answers in an engaging academic atmosphere that contributed to strengthening students’ legal analytical skills and critical thinking. The competition concluded with one team being declared the winner, and the winning students were honoured with recognition awards in the form of iPad devices, in appreciation of their academic excellence and as encouragement to continue pursuing high levels of achievement.

The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa has achieved a remarkable academic milestone, with several of its scientific departments securing advanced positions in the Ministerial Assessment Examination at the level of Iraqi universities. This accomplishment reflects the high quality of academic instruction and the continuous development of the College’s study programmes.

The Department of Accounting attained second place across Iraq, underscoring the department’s sustained academic progress driven by the dedication of its teaching staff. Meanwhile, the Department of Business Administration achieved third place, reaffirming its distinguished standing through the adoption of modern teaching methods and practical programmes that enhance students’ skills and align with labour-market needs.

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa has achieved a distinguished academic milestone by joining, for the first time, the QS World Sustainability Rankings 2026. This accomplishment places the University among only nine Iraqi institutions—public and private—featured in this prestigious international evaluation. According to the results, the University ranked second among private Iraqi universities and ninth among all participating Iraqi institutions, having met the required environmental and societal criteria adopted by the ranking.

This advancement serves as clear evidence of the University’s commitment to sustainable pathways, particularly through the enhancement of sustainability practices in infrastructure, energy management, and higher education. Under the patronage of the General Secretariat of the Holy Hussain Shrine, the College of Medicine at Warith Al-Anbiyaa University held a scientific seminar titled “The Relationship Between Religion and Medicine.” The seminar was delivered by Dr Sadiq Al-Maruj and attended by a large audience of the College’s academic staff and students, as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen scientific and ethical awareness among its students.

The seminar addressed several key themes, focusing on connecting Qur’anic values to the educational journey of medical students and highlighting the impact of religious teachings on shaping the physician’s humanitarian and ethical character. It also explored the complementarity between religious principles and contemporary scientific developments in the medical field. Students of the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa achieved a distinguished milestone by securing fourth place at the Arab Scout Youth Award – Second Edition, hosted by the United Arab Emirates, for their innovative project “Iraq Scouts Application”.

This accomplishment was achieved under the supervision of the Department of Student Activities. The university was represented at the award ceremony by Abbas Alaa Dheyaa Al-Deen, a student from the College of Science, Department of Information Technology, and was completed in coordination with the University Scouting Committee at the Ministry of Higher Education and with the support of the Iraqi Scout Association.

The project reflects the students’ ability to apply their technical skills in serving youth communities. It aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, by promoting applied learning and innovative competencies.
