Joint Scientific Workshop Between the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa (PBUH) and the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain on Manuscript Restoration

The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa (peace be upon him), in collaboration with the Imam Hussain Manuscript Center at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), held a specialized scientific workshop entitled “The Science of Manuscript Restoration (Codicology): A Study of One of the Qur’anic Manuscripts in the Treasury of Imam Hussain (PBUH) as a Model.”

The event took place in the Central Library Hall at the university on Sunday, January 21, 2025, and was presented by Dr. Manaf Al-Tamimi.

The workshop aimed to enrich knowledge and enhance skills in the field of manuscript preservation and restoration. It covered several key topics, including:

  • An introduction to the science of manuscript restoration and its cultural and scholarly importance.

  • The causes of manuscript deterioration and the environmental and chemical factors affecting it.

  • An overview of the advanced experience of the Imam Hussain Manuscript Center in preservation and restoration.

  • A detailed presentation of the technical foundations and stages of the restoration process.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation between the two institutions in organizing further workshops and specialized courses in manuscript restoration and digital documentation. They also praised the organizers’ efforts in ensuring the success of this academic event, which contributes significantly to preserving Islamic heritage and safeguarding historical manuscripts.
